Our retreat, crafted to meet our entry into the season of Lent, will draw its inspiration from the life and wisdom of Br. Lawrence, the 17th century Carmelite monk. For over 250 years, Br. Lawrence has inspired the life of prayer through ‘The Practice of the Presence of God’, a compendium of sayings that distil his day to day holiness. A delightful soul, kind and humble, he was also quite clumsy in the kitchen!
Lent is an opportunity to see the beauty of the’ leafless tree’ which is our soul before God – awaiting our blossoming into the fullness of life. Our day will consist of two addresses, alone time and a time for sharing at the close. Max will offer an original song or two along the way.
We will also share, for those who so desire, in the liturgy of the imposition of ashes, the ancient sign of the Lenten pilgrimage. The ashes will be seen as a call to new life, new possibilities, new freedom, new practice of the presence of God.
