The current Western Christian Tradition seems to be heavily weighted toward the sin/sacrifice model of redemption in Christ. For many of us, this reading of God’s Revelation in Jesus has been the source of a guilt-ridden Christianity. There is another way.

 Jesus tells us: “…you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” Jesus also said: “The truth will set you free.” For our retreat, this path of God’s love and freedom revealed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus shall be called ‘Building the House of Joy.’

            Guided by the prayers, writings and lives of saints from the Western and Eastern Church, ‘Joy’ will be understood as an enlightened, ongoing communion with God’s heart of love. We shall take into our personal and community time, words of Wisdom and Grace which have stood the test of time. Our time together will be graced with prayer, a welcoming style of presentation with original songs from Max.

Three communal sessions, generous personal time and shared ‘talking’ meals will provide us with a balance of time together and time on our own.

It is hoped that our time together will initiate a fresh and liberating sense of prayer practice and personal worthiness before the wonder and mystery of Creation. In preparation for our retreat let us pray for the discernment of our place in the Building of the House of Joy!
